Health Wallet is a secure place in the HotDoc app to store your prescriptions, so you can keep track of your medications and get them dispensed without having to search through emails or SMS messages.
This article covers how to activate your Health Wallet and set up its security features.
| We're gradually rolling Health Wallet out to patients, so you may notice some things change as we fine-tune it based on your feedback. |

Activating your Health Wallet
-
Open the HotDoc app and select Wallet from the bottom menu.
-
Select Get started.
-
Read how Health Wallet works, then select Activate Health Wallet. By activating, you're agreeing to the Health Wallet Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
| Only you can access your prescriptions. You control what's stored – you can delete any script, or your whole wallet, at any time. |
-
Confirm your current HotDoc password, then select Continue.
|
If your password doesn't meet Health Wallet's security requirements, you'll be asked to create a new one before continuing. You'll need to use 8 or more characters, including at least 1 letter and 1 number, and avoid repeated or sequential characters, common passwords, and easy-to-guess words. |
Setting up your Health Wallet security
Health Wallet uses multi-factor authentication (MFA), a PIN, and (optionally) your device's Face ID or fingerprint to keep your prescriptions secure. There are a few steps involved, but each one plays an important role in keeping your prescription information private and secure.
-
Select Enable Email MFA. This means we'll email you a one-time code each time you sign in, in addition to your password. If you've already set up MFA on your HotDoc account, you won't see this step.
| If you lose access to your email, you won't be able to access your HotDoc account. Make sure your email address is up to date and somewhere you can always access. |
-
Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email, then select Continue. The code is only valid for five minutes – if it expires, you can request a new one.
-
Create a 4-digit Health Wallet PIN. This is separate from your device PIN and is only used for Health Wallet. Avoid repeated numbers (e.g. 1211) or numbers in sequence (e.g. 123).
-
Re-enter your PIN to confirm it.
-
If your device supports it, you'll be asked to enable Face ID or fingerprint for faster access. Select Enable Face ID / Fingerprint, or Skip to set this up later in Health Wallet settings.
Your Health Wallet is now ready. Select Add script to start adding your prescriptions.

FAQs
Why was I asked to update my password?
+
Health Wallet has stronger password requirements than a standard HotDoc account, to help keep your prescription information secure. Not everyone will see this step – you'll only be asked to update your password if your current one doesn't meet these requirements.
How is my prescription data protected?
+
Your prescriptions are stored securely, and only you can access them. Access to Health Wallet is protected by multiple layers of security – your HotDoc password, email MFA, and your Health Wallet PIN (plus Face ID or fingerprint, if enabled) – so getting into your wallet always requires more than just your regular HotDoc login. You're also in control of what's stored: you can delete any script, or your whole wallet, at any time.
Do I have to enable Email MFA?
+
Yes, if you haven't already set it up. Email MFA is required to activate Health Wallet, as it adds an extra layer of protection for your prescription information. If you've already enabled MFA on your HotDoc account elsewhere, you won't be asked to set it up again.
I didn't receive my verification code. What do I do?
+
Check your spam or junk folder first. If it's not there, wait for the resend timer to finish and select resend code. If you still don't receive it, check that the email address on your HotDoc account is correct.
What happens if I skip Face ID / Fingerprint?
+
You can still use your Health Wallet, and can enable Face ID or fingerprint at any time from Health Wallet settings.
What if I forget my Health Wallet PIN later on?
+
You can reset your Health Wallet PIN using your HotDoc password. See Managing your Health Wallet settings for how to manage your PIN.
